Energy Efficiency

Total Environmental Kooling are committed to energy efficiency and conservation, and can offer 'hybrid' ventilation schemes which incorporate both natural passive stack ventilation and pre-conditioned, cooled air options, providing a fresh environment whilst reducing energy consumption and unnecessary environmental pollution.

The new L2 building regulations will have far reaching effects on building design and the services therein. These regulations will require buildings to have more efficient 'U' values and encourage the usage of passive natural ventilation.

The latest targets, as set out in Part L2 of the Building Regulations, are designed to further reduce CO2 emissions by at least another 25%. With the added obligation to demonstrate that buildings are airtight yet won't overheat, the need for effective ventilation and air conditioning systems has never been so great.

We are able to offer the latest technology and schemes to meet the design challenges that this encompasses. For example, natural ventilation uses less energy than fully air conditioned systems, but can be prone to overheating, so by adding comfort cooling to passive ventilation, we are able to offer mixed mode systems that can provide the best of both worlds.

This diagram shows how natural ventilation and air conditioning work together to bring you the best of both worlds....

Energy Efficiency

Geothermal Technology

We are able to offer the latest Geothermal systems, using ground or lake source heat pumps to provide safe, reliable, energy efficient heating and cooling. These systems typically deliver six units of energy for each unit of electricity consumed, and despite more expensive installation costs, they can expect to run at approximately 30% of the operating cost of conventional (non VRV) heating and air conditioning systems, which can offer a rapid pay back on the original investment.

Air Source Heat Pumps

With recent progress in VRV Air Source Inverter Driven Heat Pumps, we are able to provide excellent cost effective schemes together with operating and maintenance costs.   Where this application is for VRV based on Heat Recovery concept, then the project would qualify under the ECA Scheme.

Gas Driven GHP Systems

Clients with electrical power restrictions can take advantage of Calor Gas driven VRF Systems which will heat, cool and provide power and in addition, supply electrical operating costs.  These systems, manufactured by Sanyo would qualify for ECA Grants.

Wind Power

Wind power can offer Clients a saving of between 15-20% of the energy used, subject to site conditions.  A typical installation would offer 10 kW power with wind speed of 13m/sec.  The power not consumed on site can be sold back to the National Grid.  Grants can be available subject to local government requirements.

Oil Fired Installations

Where there are inefficient central heating systems with a large carbon footprint, together with high oil costs, Total Environmental Kooling Ltd are able to offer Sanyo gas driven systems which generates own ‘Free Electricity’, heating and cooling with 140% efficiency (even during cold weather).  This system can also provide domestic hot water up to 22 kW at 65˚C. Grants are available subject to Local Government guidelines.

Hot Water – Inverter Systems

These systems offer excellent running costs when compared to oil or natural gas boilers.  These machines are environmentally friendly, with CO² natural refrigerant.  A typical system would offer hot water up to 65˚C, together with domestic hot water.  The whole package would be cost effective in running cost.  In addition would qualify for in terms of sustainability as operating on CO² Natural Refrigerant which has Ozone Destruction Potential ‘O’ and Global Warming Potential at ‘1’.

Economy via this superior heat pump would be 3.75 COP over electric heating.

Solar Thermal Technology

Where practical for Capital Cost and requirement for renewable sources, solar panels are available for hot water.

In addition, we can offer HIT (Heterojunction Intrinsic Thin).  The power generated would be DC, and taken via Power Inverter prior to connecting to Distribution Board.  When there is excess electrical power this can be sold onto the Client electrical supply company.  These systems are 100% emission free and qualify for grants as they are sustainable energy.

Ground Source Air Ducts

Total Environmental Kooling has experience with free cooling via ground source ventilation ducts.  These will offer savings in running costs as the supply air temperature is up to half that of the external ambient temperature.

This can reduce the overall running cost of the building during the working day, i.e. external ambient at 28˚C ground source would be 18˚C approximately.  The result would be no requirement for mechanical cooling of the external air.

Enhanced Capital Allowances

This scheme was developed by DEFRA and the Inland Revenue, and is managed and promoted by the Carbon Trust. There is a list of qualifying products on the eca website - www.eca.gov.uk.

One type of qualifying equipment is inverter driven equipment, the cost of which, together with their installation cost, can in most cases be 100% offset against corporation tax as capital expenditure in the first year rather than at a rate of 25% per annum. This tax relief on qualifying investments within one year can significantly improve cash flow and shorten the payback period on investment.

We are able to offer products which qualify for these incentives.
